Discovering God’s Promises: Claiming His words.
Overtime, the word of God also known as the bible has been underestimated and the perception of most new generation to it is being old school.
Someone once told me that asides the book of psalms in the bible she does not check out other parts of the bible except during Sunday service.
And some other people around justified the statement saying “when it’s not as if you’re a pastor. Who does that?
This is the mentality of lots of Christian out there on our today’s world.
Discovering God’s promises: claiming His words.
I belief that the more we familiarize ourselves with God’s word, the more we become confident in claiming the recognized promises in his word.
Our God is a being of love;
He himself is love and His words are most definitely filled with this overflow of love and sweet promises of love for us.
It’s noted in the Bible that He honors His word more than His Name.
Psalm 138:2: – I will worship toward thy holy temple and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name.)
Also, the bible says, “so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.”
There are lots of promises to claim in His word which He honors than his name… loads of lots of them.
The bible has been in existence before we all were and Jesus himself walked on earth like any other mortal man.
He felt what we all feel, and He ate like we do, Moreso, He went through trials and tribulations just as we do now and although He had father to guide him then.
We also have similar advantage with Him if we can recognize and obey Him just as he commands us to.
In fact, the end of Jesus journey on earth was more pain filled than any human;
even though His was for a defined purpose but He still went through the pain and agony like a normal human.
There is nothing that exists on earth now in the name of negativity or chaos that has not been from time.
Is it strife, oppression, blasphemy, fake prophets, liars, killers, same sex unions, adultery, war, bad government and so on?
Although they might have been more modernized or given new names,
the fact remains that those acts have existed since time immemorial, and the bible gave us feedback on them all.
Even the torture of the believers, the bible already mentioned it and gave applicable solutions and what to expect from them all.
Below are some key promises in the bible that we should take good look at and meditate and activate over every aspect of our lives.
Discovering God’s promises: claiming His words.
Matthew 11:28-29
(28) “Come to me, all ye who are weary and are weary(tired) and burdened, and I will give you rest.
(29) Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls”
This verse is about the promise of God for extreme ease if you’re tired from carrying heavy burdens.
This is an invitation of love from Him to you, to swap your burdens with ease, such a beautiful offer… don’t snooze!
Discovering God’s promises: claiming His words.
Jeremiah 29:11
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
This is a letter of assurance to us as believers.
No matter what you’re going through, God says He knows the plan He has for you.
Just take a deep breath and chill because He knows what he’s doing and planning to for you.
Philippians 4: 6-9
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
This is one of my favorite parts of the bible.
This verse calms me no matter the chaos; I would like you to memorize and meditate on it.
All He wants from you when you’re being anxious is thanksgiving and your request over whatever the scenario is.
Isaiah 54:17
No weapon forged against you will prevail, and you will refute every tongue that accuses you.
This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and this is their vindication from me, “declares the LORD.
This part of scripture is Another promise that can be referred to in any unfortunate circumstances.
James 1-5
If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.
This is a promise for wisdom and not just earthly wisdom but Divine wisdom from the almighty himself.
MARK 11:24
Therefore, I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and you will.’
Emphasis on ‘’WHATEVER’.
Whatever it is you ask for. As long as you do believe, He said it will be yours and His word doesn’t lie.
PHILIPIANS 4:19
And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.
This is another promise to us as believers. All our needs!
ISAIAH 41:10
So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God, I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
This promise is activated when we’re going through difficulties. It tells of God’s promise to help you.
PSALM 37:23-24
(23) the LORD makes firm the steps of the one that delights in me;
(24) though he may stumble, he will not fall, for the lord upholds him with His hand
When things look hard and uncertain, just look back on this verse and brace up cause the lord will definitely uphold your hand.
1PETER 2:24
He himself bore our sins? in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness, by his wounds you have been healed.”
By his stripes you are healed- you can confess this promise to yourself or to others around you when if there is a case of sickness.
EXODUS 14:14
The Lord will fight for you, you need only to be still.”
This promise subtly reminds us that at times we don’t need to go through physical rigors to fight for ourselves.
We have an alternative option of being still and watch God fight for us.
I love this promise as well.
JOHN 16:33
I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace.
in this world you will have trouble.
But take heart! I have overcome the world.
This is a promise for Christian’s generally around the world-
He said in this world we will go through trouble but guess what, He overcame the world for us already.
We’re to manifest in a world that has been conquered by our father.
Even if Satan and his compatriots attempts anything funny, we know that Satan can only attempt but won’t win.
And we will never be defeated.
Because Jesus told us that He has overcame the world already. Long before we were born.
Discovering God’s promises: claiming His words.
The sweetest part about scriptural promises is that you can easily reference God when making your supplications.
It’s like your earthly dad promising to give you whatever you need and all you must do is to ASK.
The bonus part is that this Heavenly Father is making that promise.
And He’s more capable than any earthly father on earth to provide us with the best of our needs.
Please do not limit yourself when asking for anything.
And remember you’re not just asking; you’re reminding him of his promises to you.
God honors His words; He honors His promise.
He said “Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone?
Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake?
If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children,
how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!” (Matthew 7:9-11 NIV).
May the LORD himself remind us of these promises when we’re in need of them-
that we might not just waste around the world while the solution to our predicament is in our palms.
And May God enable us to realize the potency of His world and clear us of the mentality that being biblical is too spiritual.
Also, May God help this generation, so we don’t all waste away despite having better opportunities than our previous generation.
We pray that May God himself touch the heart of His beloved that has wandered far away from the fold.
Furthermore, May He cause them to thirst for the knowledge they departed from,
and May God cause their heart to yearn for home like never before.
Importantly, may this generation not lose it before they use it.
And for those that have been in darkness from onset, father please shed your light on them,
and direct them to this path that they might go through you “the way and the truth”.
This we ask for according to the promise of “ask and it shall be given unto you” in Jesus Name.
Amen.
