We Can Create The Light We Want To See – Pst Adetula O Bright
“You can’t spank a baby and tell the baby not to cry”.
Interview with Pastor Adetula Ola Bright on the Nigerian #EndBadGovernance Protest
By David Oletu (DCM)
A public demonstration is presently taking place in Nigeria called the End Bad Governance Protest.
The demonstration began on August 1st, 2024, and was sparked by the increasing hunger and economic hardship in Nigeria.
Until the protestors’ demands are fulfilled, it doesn’t appear that the protest will end anytime soon.
We had the honour of speaking with the Senior Pastor of Adoration House, Pastor Adetula Ola Bright, during these ongoing protests by Nigerian Citizens.
He discusses his thoughts on the #endbadgovernance demonstration by Nigerians,
and sends a crucial message to young people, political figures, and Christians in general.

DCM: Do you think the protest is necessary and worth it?
Pst. Bright: Protest is a form of expression, and every human on earth has the right to express himself.
Freedom of expression is a fundamental human right.
The subsidy is gone, transportation is at an all-time high, food inflation is at 40%, the naira has lost its purchasing power, 3 to 4 pieces of tomatoes go for N1,000,
workers take home salaries to end on the way because it can’t take them home anymore, just to mention a few of the many hardships Nigerians are currently facing.
You can’t spank a baby and tell the baby not to cry.
The people are facing hardship, but the politicians are the ones collecting hardship allowance.
There is no show of empathy from the government, no sufficient palliative is provided to ease the pain of the people, and you say they should not express themselves!
The protest was and is necessary, and it will always be worth it.
DCM: Many of us often pray that God should choose the best leaders for us. Do you think God is involved in government affairs?
Pst. Bright: Government is leadership, and God is big on leadership.
He created the world, and he still gets involved in the affairs of man.
History shows His involvement in the selection of the leaders of nations.
So yes, God is involved in government affairs.
DCM: What crucial role(s) should Christians play in times like this?
Pst. Bright: Get involved. Don’t sit on the fence or be indifferent about governance.
Get involved on all levels.
Contest for electoral positions, vote during elections, speak up against bad governance and be a participating citizen.
The Bible says if the righteous rule, the poor rejoice, and the people will cry if the wicked rule.
Get involved.
DCM: How would you encourage the youth who have lost hope in Nigeria?
Pst. Bright: Get involved too. Join your ward and local government politics.
Take responsibility for your life and scale up your skills and knowledge.
We are in a knowledge economy; knowledge is the goal. Knowledge gives you power and money.
DCM: Do you think there is light at the end of the tunnel?
Pst. Bright: Individually speaking, we can each create the light we want to see.
As a nation, we are not ready for the tough decision path; we are not ready to pay the sacrificial price. We are not.
DCM: What message do you have for our political leaders?
Pst. Bright: Nigerians don’t need too much from you.
Leadership is sacrifice; leadership is putting the people first and the needs of the people before your own.
The major problems of the Nigerian state are the high cost of governance, impunity, and illiteracy.
Cut down on the cost of governance. This is killing the country.
Let people face the music anytime they breach any code of conduct. Education is key to growth and development.
DCM: Is there anything else you would love to share with us?
Pst. Bright: Love God, love yourself, and serve man.
You have something to give to this world, but you don’t have forever to do what you have to do.
Start now. Make that move now. Register for that program now. Get the skill now.
Pay now, play later, or play now and pay later. God’s grace is sufficient for you.
