The Devil Is Not Always Scary but Attractive!
Author: David Oletu
The devil does not always go around looking so monstrous and scary.
As said in the scriptures, the devil only comes to steal and destroy.
How would they possibly have easy access to steal and destroy our lives if they appeared scary to us humans?
We will rather flee immediately if they do.
Many times, we enjoy the company of the devil, unaware of the dangers that lie ahead.
If I had realized this earlier, I would have been sensitive to the kinds of things and people I allow into my life.
The Devil Is Not Always Scary but Attractive!
I am a 20-year-old attractive young woman whose mesmerizing beauty and seductive smile have made me the ‘envy’ of every other young woman and man in my town.
No guy ever passed by who didn’t look twice at me.
Yes, that accurately captured my beauty. Everybody wanted me.
Sure, I was aware of how much they all wanted to be near this stunning girl,
but my perception was insufficient to distinguish between those who genuinely wanted to be close to me and others who were only interested in using and abusing me.
I was merely influenced by words and sight; I could not tell what lay in the hearts of humans.
Who could tell anyway?
No one… except you have superpowers. The Devil Is Not Always Scary but Attractive!
So, I met this tall, fair, handsome, innocent-looking guy.
Oh my God! A guy whom every girl would desire.
Whenever he passed by me, he smelled like roses; the words that came out of his mouth were so pure, without guile;
he was always neatly dressed in a white suit and tie, with a very nice haircut.
Although I wished I had superpowers to know whether his mind was as pure and innocent as he looked, I didn’t.
However, his physical appearance and the words that came out of his mouth gave me a good impression of him.
I was already impressed and ready to follow him wherever he went and whenever he asked.
“Mary, you are the most beautiful girl I have ever seen, or are you an angel sent from heaven?” He once said to me:
I couldn’t help it, but I blushed so hard.
Why was I blushing this hard to the point that my eyes began to vomit tears?
After all, I hear such words almost every day, and it was beginning to sound cliche.
But hearing it from him that day sounded like everything to me.
“Hmmm,” or could it just be that Mary was in love?
The Devil Is Not Always Scary but Attractive!
One fateful, but regretful, day, I followed my prince charming, whom I had just met, to his house so excitedly.
I wasn’t surprised to see his house looked neat and well-furnished—my prince charming was always neat and prim.
I felt at home and secure with him, having been impressed with his innocent appearance and the pure words that came out of his mouth.
Staying in his house that day was fun: we played games, we had Gists, and he served me food and drinks.
We played and became so careless, to the point that I didn’t even know when I fell asleep.
Later, I woke up on his soft red couch, feeling so tired.
And I yawned heavily, like a lion that wanted to devour an elephant with its mouth wide open.
“Oh, you are awake?” He said to me.
“Yes,” I replied, packing my bags to take my leave.
“I have to be on my way now; it’s late.” So, I rushed outside, and we bid each other bye.
Having reached home, my mother noticed blood stains on my backside—the buttocks—specifically, on my short, tight white gown that revealed the shape of my hips and buttocks.
Mother had to call my attention to it, but I was as shocked as she was, not knowing what went wrong.
My Mother had to rush me to the hospital to carry out a test to find out if her assumption of what had happened to me was true or false.
To my greatest surprise, having conducted the test, the doctor discovered that I had been drugged and raped!!!

“How could this be possible?”
I was so shocked, not knowing what to do.
Mother began to question me:
“How come? Where did you go? Who did you meet?”
I began to tell her everything in shame, however, still doubting whether it was really my prince charming or not because he looked so innocent to do such to me.
I called him on the phone, and it rang, but he didn’t pick up.
Then, I called him again the second time, and it rang, but he still didn’t pick up.
Not willing to give up on calling him, I called him the third time, and this time, his phone was switched off. The Devil Is Not Always Scary but Attractive!
Thereafter, I had to go to my female friend to tell her what had happened because, at this point, I needed someone to talk to—
Someone who could calm my nerves—definitely not my mother because I knew I had disappointed her and I would feel more ashamed speaking to her.
I visited my female friend, hoping that her words, after sharing my problem with her, would encourage me to just forget and move on.
But her words pierced my heart even more.
I discovered from her that my prince charming was not the innocent guy I assumed him to be.
The Devil Is Not Always Scary but Attractive!
he was just an evil-hearted man: a snake in sheep’s clothing, a devil in disguise whose appearance was as pure and attractive as an angel.
Further, I discovered that this was not the first time he had taken advantage of girls; in fact, his records showed that he was a criminal.
My heart bled, having heard these words, and the rest they say is history.
The Devil Is Not Always Scary but Attractive!
I wish we all could know what’s in the human mind.
Some might not just be who we assume them to be; we just get easily impressed by sight.
Don’t get easily impressed by sight.
Make your thorough findings about someone first before you get involved with them.
Quit assuming the personality of someone because of what you saw in him or her the first day, and at first sight,
there could be more about that person you are yet to discover.
