The National Assembly on Wednesday confirmed the nomination of former Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase (rtd), as Chairman of the Police Service Commission.
Arase confirmation followed the consideration of the report of screening of the nominee presented by Senator Haliru Jika (APC – Bauchi Central) led Committee on Police Affairs during plenary on Wednesday.
The President, Muhammadu Buhari had on Tuesday requested the Senate to confirm the appointment of Arase as the new PSC Chairman.
In the letter sent to the Senate by President Buhari and read during plenary on Tuesday by the President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, the appointment was in accordance with the provision of Section 154 (1) of the 1999 Constitution.
With the Senate confirmation, Arase takes over from Musiliu Smith who resigned recently.
