President Muhammadu Buhari has disclosed on Tuesday that although the Federal Government has spent over $1b towards reclaiming Boko Haram held territories in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe States since 2015, security situations in these states remain unstable.
The Nigerian President blamed the security instability in these states, including the Lake Chad Basin, on lingering conflicts in Libya, the Central African Republic and Russia’s aggression in Ukraine.
President Buhari made this known while receiving the “Award for Strengthening Peace in Africa,” conferred on him by Abu Dhabi Peace Forum in Nouakchott, the Mauritanian capital.
“Although we are winning the war, as a country and sub-region, we continue to be negatively impacted by events in Libya, the Central Africa Republic, The Sahel and the war in Ukraine” he stated.
The President presumed his explanation on the free circulation of all sorts of small and light weapons orchestrated by foreign fighters.
