About 900 rounds of ammunition were being transferred from Onitsha, Anambra State, to Abuja when Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command agents seized them.
Following intelligence, decoy operators in Abuja were able to intercept the ammo, which included cartridges for sophisticated weapons and was hidden among bathroom slippers and being transferred by a commercial luxury bus.
Anthony Udeh, the bus driver, and Emmanuel Onuvu, the conductor, asserted that they were not aware of the contents of the bag because they had been handed the materials to deliver to a person in Abuja.
In response to the development, Sadiq Abubakar, the new FCT Commissioner of Police, said the arrest was made to protect the lives and property of FCT citizens, particularly those who live in border communities.
Since his appointment as the new FCT police chief, the CP reports that 18 people have also been detained for a variety of offences. He gave a breakdown of the arrests, saying that on December 22, 2022, at around 3 a.m., agents from the command affiliated with the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) detained eight males for armed robbery and other heinous crimes: Ibrahim Umar, Nurudeen Yunusa, Muhammed Ahmed, Yunusa Ibrahim, Amodu Ahmed, Zakari Muhammed, Yusuf Ibrahim, Isah Labaran.
He issued a warning to criminal elements not to enter the FCT because they would be thoroughly smoked out.
