Just Wait For The Sun
A Poetry Appreciation of Lisa Mark’s “Just Wait For The Sun” by David Oletu
Just Wait For The Sun
Written By Lisa Marks
When everything’s darkness
And you feel so alone,
When the rain doesn’t stop
And you can’t make it home,
When it feels all is lost
And you just want to run,
It can’t rain forever.
Just wait for the sun.
When family is pain,
(and)When friends can’t be found,
When you just want to scream
But you can’t find the sound,
When it’s all your fault,
And you feel like you’re done,
Just wait for the sun.
The sunshine will come.
The storm always passes.
It won’t last forever.
The rain always stops and gives way to good weather.
The brightest and warmest of days still to come.
Please wait for the sun.
The sunshine will come.
People who need you,
People who still love you
Can warm up your soul like the sunshine above you.
You’re never alone,
No matter what’s done.
Wait for the sun.
Just wait for the sun.
Dark clouds always pass.
I promise you, hun.
We’re all waiting with you.
Just wait for the sun.

As I gazed at my phone’s screen, Lisa Mark’s powerful poem ‘Just Wait For The Sun’ caught my eye at the perfect moment.
With 2024 drawing to a close,
its timely message offers comfort and solace to those who have navigated disappointments and challenges throughout the year.
The poet masterfully weaves together vivid imageries, symbols, and metaphors,
crafting a message of hope that resonates deeply with readers.
By leveraging the imagery of natural elements, particularly the cyclical nature of the weather,
the poet illustrates the transient nature of life’s challenges, reassuring us that difficulties will not persist indefinitely.
For example, the poem employs the rain and sun as potent symbols, evoking a sense of vulnerability and hope.
Consider being alone outside on a rainy day, with heavy rain pouring down.
Would you venture into the downpour to rush home, or would you rather seek shelter and wait for the rain to pass?
Most of us would naturally opt to wait for the rain to cease, avoiding the discomfort of getting drenched.
Rushing home through the downpour could lead to unnecessary complications, such as catching a cold, flu, or catarrh.
By waiting for the rain to pass, we can avoid adding to our troubles.
The same principle applies to life’s challenges.
Just Wait For The Sun
Just as the rain symbolizes obstacles that hinder our progress, getting bogged down by problems and losing sight of hope can be detrimental.
If we dwell so much on our difficulties and neglect to seek a way forward, we only exacerbate our struggles.
However, the poet offers a message of hope, symbolized by the warmth of the sun.
Even in the darkest moments, when all seems lost – when family is a source of pain, friends are nowhere to be found,
and emotions are overwhelming – the poet reminds us that these struggles are temporary.
Just as the storm will pass, the rain will cease, and the sun will shine through, our troubles will give way to better times.
All we need to do is wait for the sun to rise again, for its warmth and light will inevitably return.
In time, you will discover that there are people who need and love you, bringing warmth to your soul just as the sunshine does.
One of the most compelling aspects of this poem is its ability to convey a sense of solidarity.
The poet so eloquently reminds us that we are not alone in our struggles.
We each face our own challenges, and we are all waiting together for a brighter tomorrow.
And as the poet reassuringly promises, “Dark clouds always pass,” giving us hope for the sunshine that is to come.
Wishing you a New Year filled with hope and warmth.
May these timeless words of encouragement guide you:
Isaiah 40:31 “But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.”
Exodus 14:14 “The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still”
May you find strength, peace, and comfort in the year ahead.
