It Wasn’t Me!
How Often Do We Find Ourselves Deflecting Blame Instead of Taking Responsibility?
“And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat.” Genesis 3:12 KJV
Like a child would say when caught in the act of breaking something important in the house despite the parent’s warnings, “It wasn’t me. She did it!”
Adam, even though caught in his sin, could not take responsibility but resorted to blaming others.
He was responsible for leading and watching over his wife.
While Eve was tempted, he did not do anything to intervene but was complacent and even willingly joined in the sinful act.
Not only did he blame Eve,
but he also implied that God was responsible when he said to God, “The woman You gave to be with me, gave me the fruit.”
It Wasn’t Me!
Such is the sinful nature of man.
We point our fingers at circumstances, people, or even God to try to justify our sins or to console ourselves from the guilt and consequences.
How often do we find ourselves deflecting blame instead of taking responsibility?
Dear beloved, this verse teaches us how important it is to be honest before God.
As a Father, God wants our openness, we must learn to acknowledge our shortcomings before Him without passing the blame.
Instead of responding as Adam did, let us emulate the example of David.
After God reprimanded him for his sin, David immediately repented and owned up to his mistakes.
Though David was disciplined, God forgave him, and their relationship was then restored.
In our moments of falling short, God does not need our excuses.
May we choose to turn to God with broken and contrite hearts, acknowledging our sins before Him and seeking His grace to overcome them.
It Wasn’t Me!
Let Us Pray:
Lord, help me to respond correctly whenever I fall into compromise.
May I respond by taking responsibility for my sins and repenting for the offense done.
Thank You for always being patient and forgiving with me.
Amid my failings, may I still glorify You in true repentance.
Amen!
