God can’t keep us out of debt!
Your Diligence in Managing your finances, combined with God’s Provision, is the path to debt-free living.

God can’t keep us out of debt!
It doesn’t matter how much God provides –
if we’re consistently spending more than we have, we’ll always be in debt.
I can remember times in my life where I would pray earnestly for God to change my financial situation…
…and it just didn’t seem like He was listening.
What I wish that I had realized earlier is this:
God can NOT keep us out of debt.
I know that might sound almost heretical but hear me out…
God wants us to live debt-free lives.
He wants us to experience the freedom and peace that comes with financial stability.
But He also trusts us to manage the things He’s given us.
We can choose to:
- Give it generously
- Save it wisely
- Spend it carefully
- Or even spend more than we have
That last choice is where many of us stumble.
God can’t keep us out of debt!
And here’s the hard truth:
It doesn’t matter how much God provides – if we’re consistently spending more than we have, we’ll always be in debt.
That doesn’t mean God is abandoning us in our financial struggles.
He wants to work with us to help us get out of debt.
Like David says, “a very present help in times of trouble.”
But we have a crucial role to play – we have to stop overspending!
Think about it this way:
If you’re in a boat with a hole in it, God can provide you with buckets to bail water.
He might even send people to help you bail.
But if you don’t patch the hole, you’ll keep taking on water no matter how fast you bail.
In the same way, God can provide unexpected income, help you find better jobs, or bring people into your life with financial wisdom.
But if you don’t address the root cause – spending more than you have – you’ll remain in debt.
So, what can you do?
- Acknowledge your role: Recognize that your spending habits are key to long-term financial freedom.
- Take responsibility: Commit to not spending more than you make (or at least begin to reduce overspending).
- Seek wisdom: Ask God for discernment in your financial decisions.
- Create a plan: Prioritize paying off debt and building your savings.
- Trust God’s provision: Believe that as you properly manage what He provides, He will continue to provide.
Remember Proverbs 21:5 – “The plans of the diligent lead to profit as surely as haste leads to poverty.” ( SeedTime Money: Financial Freedom for Eternal Impact)
