Hello there!
Greetings to you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Welcome to the month of March.
The month of march is the often set aside to celebrate women’s history month and this month we will be beaming our spotlight on Nigerian women in ministry who have set a pace for other women to follow.
While I prepared to write this editorial, a question dropped in my spirit, where are the Nigerian women in ministry?
As I pondered on the question, I found myself asking the same question, Really, where Are the Nigerian women in ministry at this time?
In the weeks leading up to the Nigerian presidential which held on the 25th of February 2023, a very crucial time for Nigeria not only bas nation but for Christians in this country. There have been several prophecies coming from various pulpits, which I observed was mostly from men in ministry.
This led me to begin to repeat the questions that the spirit of God had asked me? Where are the Nigerian women with the gifts of prophecy? Where are the apostles, the teachers, the evangelists? The pastors? Women who God has given a voice in this generation? Why aren’t we hearing from them ?
While the Nigerian Christian women seem to have to found their place and are flourishing in spaces like the Christian music space with the likes of Sinach, Victoria Orenze, Mercy Chinwo, Judikay, Ada Ehi and the other female music ministers are making waves In the Nigerian christian music space, we are yet to see the same representation on the pulpits.
Are there women who are making impact on the pulpit in Nigeria? Sure, women like Funke Felix- Adejumo, Rev Christy Bature, Pastor Laurie Idahosa exist and are wonderful preachers, I still believe that many more female ministers and leaders exist out there but are for some reason still relatively unknown/ hiding.
In this march which is women’s history month, set aside to celebrate the achievements of women, we will be highlighting women in ministry and leadership who continue to do exceptionally well in their various fields of endeavor, are a burning and shining light, and have set a good example for other women to follow with the hopes that this will spur into action, other women who are still yet to answer the call to pick up their mantle! And get to work.
My charge to women in ministry in Nigeria who may still be lacking the boldness to operate in their offices or are yet to answer the call of God upon their lives for one reason or the other is; Arise oh Lioness! God is counting on you, and you have been called into ministry and leadership, equipped with your unique gifts and calling for such a time as this!
Happy Women’s History Month!
