Dominion.
The Call of Man to Subdue the Earth is a Call to Govern Responsibly, recognizing that Our Actions Impact not only the Present but also Future Generations!
“And God blessed them, and God said unto them,
Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it:
and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.” Genesis 1:28 KJV
Since God made the moving creatures, He has blessed them with the ability to increase in number.
When He made man, He also did the same thing but with two major differences that set us apart from the rest of the animal kingdom.
When God made man in His image, He blessed us not only with fertility but the authority to subdue and dominate every living thing.
Dominion.
The word “subdue” is “kabash” in the original Hebrew, and it means to bring into subjection or to keep underfoot.
It may sound like a violent subjugation, but the concept of subduing the earth is not to destroy or oppress but to actively exercise control over it with our efforts to nurture and cultivate.
We are entrusted with the work of taking care of the earth as ruling stewards, to ensure the fruitfulness of the land and the continuous sustenance of life.
The call of man to subdue the earth is a call to govern responsibly, recognizing that our actions impact not only the present but also future generations.
Dominion.
Beloved, we have an important role in the stewardship of the earth.
It is a great privilege to be entrusted by God to manage the resources He has given and to be fruitful as He has commanded.
God has put so many important things in our trust, such as money, relationships, time, the environment, and the Church.
Although we have failed miserably in our stewardship, Jesus Christ sacrificed Himself for our redemption and renewal.
After the death and resurrection of Christ came the Great Commission.
We have been given the call to be fruitful in advancing God’s kingdom,
and as disciples, we have an important role to play—to subdue this fallen world into the saving grace of the Gospel.
Dominion.
Let Us Pray:
Lord Jesus, thank You for renewing my life and giving me the chance to serve You.
As You have entrusted me with stewarding the life that You bought with Your blood, teach me also to be faithful in sharing the Gospel with others.
Make me fruitful in advancing Your kingdom. Use me to make You known to the world.
In Jesus’ name. Amen!
