Early Career
Funke Felix Adejumo was born on January 28, 1963 in Ibadan, Oyo state. As a female child, her birth generated a series of controversies in the neighbourhood. Her father was told not to send her to school, or train her because she ‘cannot’ be successful. But despite all odds, Funke has continued to make her family proud.
Due to financial difficulties in the family, Funke experienced challenges while growing up. Luckily, she was able to attend a primary and secondary school in Ibadan. Then, she sponsored herself through the university with some assistance from her then Fiancé (now husband). She is a graduate of English from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN).
Personal Life
Rev. Funke gave her life to Christ at age 14. She said, “At age 14, I gave my life to Jesus and that was when my life witnessed a turnaround and it has been getting better and better.”
She is happily married to Felix ‘Remi Adejumo. They met in 1982 at Ibadan and took their marriage oath in 1984. Bishop Felix is the Founder and Senior Pastor of Agape Christian Ministries Inc. The union is blessed with 4 biological children, grandchildren and adopted children.
Funke and her husband, Felix were ordained as Ministers of God on August 12, 1989, in Ondo State, Nigeria. At some point, they received the Best Couple Award in Ondo State.
Funke Felix Adejumo Foundation
Adejumo, together with her husband run the Agape Christian ministry in Akure which they founded in 1988. They have become a philanthropic powerhouse that financially empowers people. Pastor Funke Adejumo is the president of the Funke Felix Adejumo Foundation (FFAF), a non-governmental organisation that helps women.
She founded it to help people who live in poverty like she once did. Adejumo prefers to help pay school fees for the poor than stock her wardrobe with designers. Also, Funke runs an orphanage, Grace Orphanage. She and her husband, Felix Adejumo, built a children’s hospital in 2003. As time passes, the number of children they cater for increases.
Recently, she began Another Chance Women’s Home. It is a home for women who are victims of domestic violence and have nowhere to go. Provisions are made for these women to live in until they heal.
Even though Pastor Funke is more focused on women; widows, single mothers, wives, mothers and daughters, she is heavily involved in other charitable projects.
To mark her 60th Birthday recently, she built a cottage for the lepers in her vicinity in Akure.
Adejumo also trains women at local and international conferences on how to function better in life, career and marriage.
Funke is regarded as one of the leading women in Nigeria. In 2017, she won the Salt and Light Award from Awesome Treasures Foundation (ATF), 2017.
Faith University in conjunction with Oral Robert’s University also honoured Funke and her husband with doctorate degrees (Honoras Causa) in Divinity.
