Interview with Rev.d Kehinde Adejumo on The Future Generation Enlightenment “24 Initiative by David Oletu.
Interviewer: Emmanuella Ani
In today’s rapidly evolving world, empowering the younger generation to excel in their various fields and lead is more crucial than ever.
We had the privilege of sitting down with Reverend Kehinde Paul Adejumo, FCA,
He is the present Senior Pastor of Foursquare Gospel Church, Adura Zonal Headquarters, Lagos-Nigeria,
Rev, Kehinde Paul is a chartered accountant who also doubles down as a passionate advocate and supporter of youth initiatives and innovation as the Eagledeye Future Generation Enlightenment.
Be Dedicated and Committed to Your life. No Shortcut to Success!
Emmanuella Ani: Sir, can you please tell us a bit about your background and the journey that led you to where you are today?
Rev.d: I was born into the family of Pa and Mrs Adejumo in 1963,
but I grew up with a beloved uncle, Pst. Ayodele Adeosun, who took over my education at the university level.
Upon graduation, I picked up on my journey to become a chartered accountant and a chartered tax practitioner.
Thereafter, I received my calling as a pastor in 1997 after hearing a voice from God saying, “I will remain the same if I refuse to do His work.”.
So, I started with Foursquare Gospel Church, Oke-Odo at Ile-Epo, as an Assistant Pastor.
After a few years, I was commissioned to pioneer Foursquare Gospel Church, Abule-Egba, Lagos State, Nigeria. The church was chartered and self-administered.
In 2017, I was transferred to Foursquare Gospel Church, Abule-Moore in Lagos State Nigeria, to serve as the senior pastor.
After 18 months, I was promoted to become the Zonal Superintendent and Senior Pastor of the Foursquare Gospel Church, Adura Zonal Headquarters. Lagos-Nigeria
Emmanuella Ani: What are your thoughts on the just concluded Future Generation Enlightenment Program, 2024-themed “Stand Out!”
Rev.d: This is a fantastic program, which Foursquare Gospel Church also has a great interest in, as it is one of our cardinal focuses.
It is a program that is geared towards enlightening the youths to “stand out” amidst all the vices prevalent in society.
To stand out and be excluded from Internet Fraud (also known as Yahoo, Yahoo Plus,) ritual killing for money, corruption, amongst others.
Our youths should stand out and away from all these things, – Be Dedicated and Committed to Your life. No Shortcut to Success!
You would agree with me that it takes a lot of courage for young people like David Oletu, the convener, and his team to continue steadfastly with this initiative since 2021.
Emmanuella Ani: In what ways do you think young people can be encouraged more to make a meaningful impact on society, no matter the challenges they face?
Rev.d: Yes,
Youths can be encouraged to make a meaningful impact by:
- Allowing them to participate in a leadership team with a lot of guidance.
- They can be encouraged to go for training for wider knowledge.
- Seminars can be organized for them to broaden their experience and understanding.
- They can be encouraged financially by providing capital to start a business on their own.
- Business and job empowerment can be given to them to encourage our young ones to start a business on their own.
Emmanuella Ani: Due to negative peer pressure, selfish interest, love for money over humans, etc., do you think we are short of many good people who genuinely want to contribute meaningful value to society?
If you think so, what salient role do you see the Eagledeye F-Gen Enlightenment play in changing the narrative?
Rev.d: The Eagledeye, in their little way, can change the narrative through:
- Youth empowerment and training
- Through the power of community and teachings that steer young ones in the way of God.
- Outreaches centered around the youth and much enlightenment to curb vices.
- Focusing on their lives for the good future of tomorrow.
- Teach the future generation to become leaders of tomorrow.
Emmanuella Ani: Can you share a pivotal moment in your life that taught you a valuable lesson?
Rev.d: A moment in my life that taught me a valuable lesson was the day I remembered or noticed that I was the only graduate in my family.
This gave me the courage to be determined and focused, which further fueled my decision not to disappoint my parents.
This consciousness led me to work harder and be determined to be successful.
Emmanuella Ani: What are some common misconceptions about success that you think young people should be aware of?
Rev.d: Misconceptions about success:
- They should know that success does not come from magic; it comes from hard work.
See thou a man diligent in his business, he will not stand before mean men but with kings and princes (Prov. 22:29).
- Success does not come from internet fraud (yahoo-yahoo, yahoo plus), corruption, or stealing; it comes from focusing on your good business or job.
- God help those who help themselves. You must help yourself before God will help you.
- A lazy person cannot be successful in life. You must be hard-working and diligent.
Emmanuella Ani: How do you handle setbacks or failures, and what have you learnt from them?
Rev.d: Setbacks or failures in life are bound to come.
It is one of the teachers of life.
- You handle failures with determination to be successful.
- Failures are also to be handled with a strong mind.
- Failures give you more insight into the area in which you have failed and help you handle it with good and focused attention.
- When you fall, you will make up your mind to rise again. This will make achieving your life goals unstoppable.
Emmanuella Ani: Can you share a significant lesson or insight you’ve garnered over the years that you believe is valuable for younger generations?
Rev.d:
- I have learnt to look to God for everything, and He has not disappointed me.
- I have learnt to be diligent in my ministry and my business. By so doing, God has been blessing me.
- I have learnt to be a risk-taker. By so doing, many fallow grounds are exploited.
- I have learnt to be focused and make decisions at the right time.
Emmanuella Ani: What advice would you give to your younger self, knowing what you know now?
Rev.d: My advice to my younger self as well as to the young ones is:
- To be dedicated and committed to their life. There are no two ways to success, and there is no shortcut to good achievement in life.
- They should be ready to learn and be submissive to training.
- The young ones should eschew laziness and be diligent.
- They should also be submissive to higher authority for good leadership and direction.
Emmanuella Ani: What are some values or principles that you live by, and how have they guided you through life’s challenges and opportunities?
Rev.d:
- Determination: One of those principles that has helped me in life is determination.
This has really helped me in my academics. in my spiritual journey and a lot because rough is the way.
Many things can be achieved through determination, and not quitting.
- Focus: I have learnt how to be very focused. So that my attention from doing the will of God and being successful will not be shifted.
- Putting my trust in God. God has been a rock, and sincerely, He has not failed me.
- I have learnt to work it out myself rather than depend on others. It is a principle that has helped me so much.
Emmanuella Ani: Thank you, Sir, for your time.
Rev.d: My pleasure.
God will continue to strengthen and give Eagledeye the enablement to continue better with this initiative.
God will uplift the Convener, David Oletu, and his vision will go on higher grounds. It will be known all over the world in Jesus’ name!
